How to create a more follow-worthy Twitter profile

Are you worth following on Twitter?

Do you turn people away with your Twitter profile?

Are they impressed by what they see when they come to your Twitter page?

Even with 280 characters now, Twitter still emphasizes the power of brevity and simplicity.

How can you make yourself “follow-worthy” on Twitter?

1. Add your headshot and a header photo to your Twitter profile

Don’t be an egghead. You won’t be taken seriously.

Customize your Twitter profile.

Upload your headshot (400×400 pixels) so people know what you look like.

Add a background or header photo (1500×500 pixels).

Use an image that people can connect with such as a place. Don’t use a photo that is too busy.

Your tweets, headshot, bio, and websites should shine more than your header image.

Or you can search Pinterest for best Twitter backgrounds.

2. Optimize your Twitter bio

Twitter users and Buzzsumo use keywords to search on Twitter.

Add in specific keywords that are relevant to you, who are you, and what you do so you can be found on Twitter.

Also, include the Twitter handles of companies, blogs, organizations that you are part of.

3. Add a link to your Twitter profile to drive traffic to a specific website

Use this one hyperlink wisely.

Drive it to your most important website such as your LinkedIn profile or your blog, your personal brand website or your blog.

In my Twitter profile, I drove it to my blog/personal website because it has my bio, how to book me for speaking engagements, why I started my blog and helpful blog content about digital marketing, content marketing, social media, social selling, personal branding, influencer marketing, public relations, marketing and communications.

4. Ensure your following to followers ratio is correct

Follow fewer people than the number of people that follow you.

As you start to grow your Twitter influence, it is ok for a little while but most people like to follow influencers or people have a following.

They size you up so make sure you follow fewer people than people who follow you. You will get more followers.

5. Pin your best tweet

To show others that you are tweeting good content, make sure you pin your best tweets to the top of your profile. It is one of the easiest ways you can improve your Twitter profile and one of the simplest hacks to improve with a click of a button.

With all your tweets, using the power of content curation (and content curation resources available), you need to make sure your best tweet stands out.

Bringing It All Together

These are just five ways you can improve your Twitter profile and improve your influence on Twitter.

Another tip is to verify your Twitter account. The blue verified badge on Twitter shows other people that your account is authentic.

What would you add to the list? Why do you follow others on Twitter?
