Over the past year, you may have seen many media outlets, publications, and blogs reporting on the shift toward remote work. The media was talking about its sudden importance to how businesses are functioning in today’s fast-paced and ever-changing world.
Not many people are aware, but more than 10% of the workforce was already working from home when the global pandemic hit in early 2020. However, COVID-19 forced many offices to close. So, the work from home number shot up to 42% of the workforce during the pandemic.
For those already working from home, the adjustment to this new way of working was slim to none. For those that regularly went into the office, the adjustment was huge and a big adjustment. Not only because the way they worked drastically changed, but because the lines blurred between home life and work life. People have to find out how to be productive when working from home.
With remote work here to stay, it’s important for workers to have a good home office set up. It needs to be advantageous for their particular working styles. Everyone works differently. Your work space needs to be set up in a certain way if you are in meetings and screen sharing. It may need to set up in a certain way if you are researching and writing most of the day versus coding most of the day. Each person’s work day looks different, so each person’s office space should look a little different too.
